How to Travel to and Around Dumaguete for the 2027 Philippines AA Convention

International gateways, regional routes, the final transfer to Bethel Guest House, and local transportation during your stay

Most overseas visitors reach the Philippines through Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) or Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila (MNL). From there, continue to Dumaguete (Sibulan) Airport (DGT), use a Cebu land-and-sea route, or connect through one of the regional ferry and bus routes described below.

Every arrival route on this page ends at Bethel Guest House on Rizal Boulevard, the venue for the 42nd Annual Philippines A.A. Convention, scheduled for January 29–31, 2027.

After arrival, visitors can move through central Dumaguete by walking, Grab when available in the app, motorized tricycle, jeepney, bus, rental car, rental van, motorcycle, scooter, or prearranged private driver. The same page also explains practical travel from Dumaguete to Valencia, Bacong, and Dauin.

The schedule examples were checked on July 11, 2026. They are planning references, not a final January 2027 timetable. Build the route from your actual point of origin to Bethel Guest House, then confirm each flight, sailing, connection, vehicle, app service, and pickup directly before paying.

Start With Where You Are Coming From

Outside the Philippines

Use Cebu (CEB) or Manila (MNL) as the principal international gateway, then connect to Dumaguete or continue through Cebu by land and sea.

Manila or a Manila connection

Fly to DGT. A long-distance 2GO passenger sailing may also be available on selected dates.

Cebu or a Cebu international arrival

Fly to DGT, take a through-bus, use an overnight ferry, connect through Tagbilaran, or cross through Sibulan or Tampi.

Siquijor

Use a direct ferry or fast craft arriving at Dumaguete City Port.

Bohol

Travel from Tagbilaran to Dumaguete on OceanJet, subject to the date-specific schedule.

Dapitan or northern Mindanao

Use a passenger ferry or RORO service arriving at Dumaguete City Port.

Bacolod or another place on Negros

Travel by provincial bus, private vehicle, hired van, rental vehicle, or motorcycle.

Already at Bethel Guest House

Use the local section for walking, Grab, tricycles, public transport, rentals, and travel to Valencia, Bacong, or Dauin.

January 2027 Schedules Are Not Final Yet

Airlines and shipping companies normally publish or revise schedules closer to the travel date. Ferry departures can also change because of weather, vessel maintenance, port instructions, demand, and vessel substitutions. The Philippine Ports Authority schedule pages expressly state that vessel schedules are subject to change without prior notice.

For a permanent public page, the durable resource is the official airport, port, airline, ferry, or operator page. The copied times on this page are included to show the current shape of each route. They should be reviewed again before the convention and checked once more immediately before travel.

Arriving From Outside the Philippines

Most international visitors do not arrive directly at Dumaguete Airport. They normally enter the Philippines through Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) or Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), complete the required arrival formalities, and then continue on a domestic flight or a regional land-and-sea segment.

A through-ticket may protect a connection and transfer checked baggage differently from two separately purchased tickets. A self-transfer may require immigration, baggage collection, customs, movement between terminals, domestic check-in, and another security screening. Confirm the process with the airlines shown on the booking.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB)

Cebu is the closest major international gateway to Dumaguete. After landing at CEB, continue by a domestic flight to DGT or leave the airport for one of the Cebu bus, ferry, RORO, or Tagbilaran connection routes. International flights normally use Terminal 2 and domestic flights use Terminal 1, but terminal assignments should always be checked for the actual airline and date.

Airlines Arriving in Cebu

MCIA receives Philippine and international airlines. Current examples found across official airport route and airline sources include Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Philippines AirAsia, Air Busan, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Emirates, EVA Air, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Korean Air, Scoot, Starlux, T’way Air, United Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and Xiamen Air on applicable routes and dates. Other carriers may appear on the official live route map. This is a dated planning list, not a guarantee that every airline or route will operate in January 2027.

If you do not take a connecting flight from CEB to DGT, the next segment begins with ground transportation from the airport to the current Cebu bus terminal, passenger-ferry terminal, or a direct road transfer toward southern Cebu. Use MCIA’s official transport guide for current airport-side options, then confirm the exact departure point for the Dumaguete route before leaving the airport.

Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL)

Manila offers the broadest range of international arrivals and the most frequent domestic searches to DGT. NAIA has multiple terminals. A self-transfer can require a terminal change, so the airline and terminal should be confirmed before choosing the connection time.

Whether the international gateway is Cebu or Manila, the destination used for the last flight should be DGT. If the traveller continues from Cebu by land or sea, use the Cebu section below and keep Bethel Guest House as the final destination.

Arriving in Dumaguete by Air

Commercial flights arrive at Dumaguete (Sibulan) Airport, airport code DGT. The airport is in Sibulan, immediately north of Dumaguete City. Convention visitors continue by road to Bethel Guest House on Rizal Boulevard.

Manila is the principal direct air gateway. Philippine Airlines also maintains a Cebu-to-Dumaguete route page. Other Philippine and international origins may appear as connecting itineraries through Manila or Cebu. Search for DGT in the airline booking system for the intended January 2027 travel date.

Do not use a copied flight time as a permanent January 2027 schedule. Airline frequency, aircraft, departure time, and connection options remain date-specific.

Arriving in Dumaguete from Siquijor

Siquijor has the most frequent direct sea connection to Dumaguete. Services arrive at Dumaguete City Port. The current Philippine Ports Authority table lists daily services by Aleson, Montenegro, OceanJet, and Star Marine.

Operator Current published departures from Siquijor Arrival point
Aleson Shipping 6:00 AM, 1:30 PM, 6:00 PM Dumaguete City Port
Montenegro Shipping Lines 7:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:30 PM Dumaguete City Port
OceanJet 6:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 noon, 6:00 PM Dumaguete City Port
Star Marine / Anika Star 7:35 AM, 10:45 AM, 2:20 PM, 5:30 PM Dumaguete City Port

These times are the current planning snapshot, not a guaranteed January 2027 schedule. Confirm the selected sailing before arranging a same-day flight, hotel check-in, or other connection.

Stable Siquijor–Dumaguete Links

Arriving in Dumaguete from Bohol

The principal direct fast-craft route from Bohol is Tagbilaran to Dumaguete on OceanJet. The current Dumaguete port table lists a daily 12:40 PM arrival associated with the Tagbilaran service.

The departure time, through-ticket availability, operating day, and connection rules should be checked in OceanJet’s live booking system. This is especially important for anyone travelling from Cebu to Tagbilaran first and attempting to connect onward to Dumaguete on the same day.

Arriving in Dumaguete from Cebu

Cebu offers several different routes. The practical choice depends on whether you are beginning in Cebu City, Mactan, southern Cebu, or western Cebu, and whether you are travelling as a foot passenger or bringing a vehicle.

Option 1: Fly from Cebu to Dumaguete

Philippine Airlines maintains a Cebu-to-Dumaguete route page. Search the exact January 2027 date because operating days and fares can change. Cebu Pacific’s booking system should also be checked for available DGT itineraries.

Check PAL Cebu to Dumaguete  ·  Check Cebu Pacific

Option 2: Take a Through-Bus from Cebu

Ceres and related Yanson Group services operate Cebu–Dumaguete routes that use a short sea crossing in southern Cebu and continue by road into Dumaguete. The bus may cross through the Liloan–Sibulan or Bato–Tampi corridor, depending on the service.

A stable, complete, public operator timetable was not available on a conventional official website during this review. Confirm the current trip at the Cebu terminal or through the operator’s official regional channel before relying on a specific departure.

Option 3: Liloan, Cebu to Sibulan as a Foot Passenger

Cuadro Alas operates the short passenger crossing between Liloan in Santander, Cebu, and Sibulan. Sibulan is immediately north of Dumaguete. After arriving, continue south by jeepney, multicab, tricycle, bus, rental vehicle, or private transfer.

Current PPA-published arrival pattern at Sibulan

The present port table shows arrivals at approximately 3:50 AM, 5:00 AM, 6:30 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM, 4:30 PM, 5:30 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7:30 PM. Confirm the corresponding Liloan departure before travelling to the terminal.

PPA Port of Sibulan schedule

Option 4: Liloan, Cebu to Sibulan With a Vehicle

Maayo Shipping carries passengers, cars, vans, motorcycles, buses, trucks, and cargo between Liloan and Sibulan. After disembarking in Sibulan, continue south by road into Dumaguete.

Current PPA-published Maayo arrivals at Sibulan

The present table lists arrivals at approximately 11:00 PM, 5:00 AM, 6:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM, 3:30 PM, 5:00 PM, 6:30 PM, 8:00 PM, and 9:30 PM. Confirm the corresponding Liloan loading time and vehicle cutoff.

Option 5: Bato, Cebu to Tampi With a Vehicle

The Bato–Tampi crossing is useful for travellers approaching through western or central Cebu and for through-buses or private vehicles using that corridor. Tampi is farther north of Dumaguete than Sibulan, so the road transfer into the city is longer.

Current PPA-published Maayo arrivals at Tampi

The present table lists arrivals at approximately 12:15 AM, 4:45 AM, 5:45 AM, 7:15 AM, 8:45 AM, 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM, 12:15 PM, 1:15 PM, 2:45 PM, 3:15 PM, 5:45 PM, 7:15 PM, 8:45 PM, and 10:15 PM. Confirm the corresponding Bato departure and vehicle loading cutoff.

Option 6: Overnight Passenger Ferry from Cebu City

Cokaliong publishes selected Cebu–Dumaguete sailings as part of a rotating weekly schedule. These are not daily services and the operating vessel or day may change. Use the current weekly sailing page rather than treating a copied weekday or time as permanent.

Option 7: Cebu to Tagbilaran to Dumaguete

OceanJet can be used from Cebu to Tagbilaran and then from Tagbilaran to Dumaguete. Treat this as a connection unless the booking system offers a protected through-itinerary. Leave enough transfer time and confirm whether baggage must be collected or rechecked.

Check OceanJet connections

Arriving in Dumaguete from Dapitan and Mindanao

Dapitan is the principal sea gateway between northern Mindanao and Dumaguete. Passenger ferries and RORO vessels arrive directly at Dumaguete City Port. Travellers can bring a car, van, motorcycle, bus, or cargo on services that accept rolling vehicles.

FastCat

Departure from Dapitan Published arrival in Dumaguete Approximate travel time
2:00 AM 6:00 AM 4 hours
2:00 PM 6:00 PM 4 hours

Montenegro Shipping Lines

Montenegro’s current Dapitan-to-Dumaguete page lists departures at 12:00 midnight, 2:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. The page also states that schedules are subject to change without prior notice.

Other Dapitan Route Operators

The current Port of Dumaguete table also lists Dapitan-route arrivals or services associated with Aleson, Cebu Sea Charterers, Evaristo and Sons, and other operators. Use the PPA schedule as the consolidated reference and confirm the actual origin, vessel, departure time, passenger service, vehicle acceptance, and ticketing method before travel.

Arriving in Dumaguete from Manila by Passenger Ship

2GO publishes selected long-distance Manila–Dumaguete passenger sailings. The current schedule page lists a Sunday evening departure from Manila with an early Tuesday arrival in Dumaguete, but this should not be treated as a fixed January 2027 weekly timetable.

This is a long-haul passenger and cargo voyage, not a fast craft. Confirm the selected sailing in the live booking system before arranging hotel check-in, onward transportation, or convention registration around a specific arrival time.

Arriving in Dumaguete from Bacolod and Other Parts of Negros

Bacolod, Sipalay, Kabankalan, San Carlos, Bayawan, Bais, Tanjay, and other places on Negros are connected to Dumaguete by road. Visitors may arrive by provincial bus, private car, rental vehicle, hired van, or motorcycle.

Bus routes and departure times can change and are often confirmed through the originating terminal or the operator’s regional page rather than a durable public timetable. Anyone planning to arrive shortly before a convention session should confirm the trip directly instead of relying on an old copied schedule.

Travellers driving across Negros should allow for provincial traffic, mountain roads on some routes, road construction, weather, and reduced visibility after dark.

Bringing a Car, Van, Bus, or Motorcycle

Vehicle travellers can reach the Dumaguete area through:

  • Dapitan to Dumaguete: RORO services arriving directly at Dumaguete City Port.
  • Liloan, Cebu to Sibulan: Maayo vehicle ferry, followed by a short drive south.
  • Bato, Cebu to Tampi: Maayo vehicle ferry, followed by a longer drive south.
  • Bacolod or elsewhere on Negros: road travel without an inter-island crossing.

Confirm vehicle classification, fare, registration documents, terminal cutoff, loading order, passenger tickets, and available deck space. A passenger reservation does not necessarily reserve vehicle space.

Car Rental, Van Rental, and Private Drivers

Convention visitors can arrange a self-drive vehicle, car with driver, van with driver, airport pickup, seaport pickup, hotel transfer, or a vehicle for travel to Valencia, Bacong, Dauin, and other parts of Negros Oriental. DumagueteAA.org does not operate or endorse these services. The links are practical starting points with independent websites.

Before paying, confirm the driver’s-licence requirement, deposit, insurance, fuel policy, mileage limit, geographic limit, ferry restriction, luggage capacity, child-seat availability, pickup point, after-hours charge, cancellation terms, and the exact vehicle category. International visitors should also confirm the current Philippine requirements for using a foreign licence and any separate documentation required by the rental provider.

Motorcycle and Scooter Rental

A motorcycle or scooter can be practical for one experienced rider travelling between Dumaguete, Valencia, Bacong, and Dauin. It is not the low-effort choice for a visitor with convention luggage, unfamiliar road conditions, limited riding experience, or no valid licence for the vehicle category.

Confirm the licence requirement, helmet, insurance, deposit, vehicle inspection, tyre and brake condition, geographic limits, roadside assistance, delivery charge, and return process. Roads into the Valencia hills can be steep and wet. The national highway through Bacong and Dauin carries buses, trucks, motorcycles, tricycles, and local traffic.

Final Destination: Bethel Guest House

The convention venue is Bethel Guest House on Rizal Boulevard, Poblacion 4 (Barangay 4), Dumaguete City. Use the hotel name and full address when booking a flight transfer, Grab ride, tricycle special trip, rental delivery, private car, or van pickup.

From Dumaguete (Sibulan) Airport

Continue by Grab if a suitable ride appears in the app, street or arranged tricycle, rental vehicle, hotel pickup, or prearranged private transfer. The convention page describes the airport as approximately 15 to 20 minutes from Bethel Guest House under ordinary conditions.

From Dumaguete City Port

Continue by tricycle, Grab if available, private pickup, rental vehicle, or arranged transfer. Bethel Guest House is in central Dumaguete on Rizal Boulevard.

From Sibulan Passenger or Vehicle Terminals

Continue south into Dumaguete by jeepney, multicab, tricycle, bus, private vehicle, rental vehicle, Grab when available, or arranged transfer.

From Tampi

Continue south by through-bus, private vehicle, hired van, rental vehicle, or private driver. Tampi requires a longer road segment than Sibulan.

Traveling Around Dumaguete During the Convention

Walking From Bethel Guest House

Bethel Guest House is already in the central Rizal Boulevard area. The waterfront, cafés, restaurants, convenience stores, pharmacies, banks, ATMs, and many everyday services are within walking distance. Walking is the simplest choice for short central trips when weather, luggage, and mobility permit.

Grab in Dumaguete

Grab’s official Philippine location page lists Dumaguete City. Open the app at the actual pickup location to see the ride products, vehicles, estimated fare, driver supply, and geographic coverage available at that moment. The presence of Grab in the city does not guarantee that every Grab product will appear, that a driver will accept an out-of-city trip, or that a return pickup will be available in Valencia, Bacong, or Dauin.

Motorized Tricycles

Motorized tricycles are the ordinary public transport inside Dumaguete. They can be hailed on the street and are commonly found near the airport, port, market, malls, hotels, and central streets. A shared trip follows the driver’s normal direction and may carry other passengers. A special or direct trip takes the passenger to a requested destination and should be agreed with the driver before departure.

Do not preserve a fixed tricycle fare on an evergreen visitor page. Local fare rules, fuel adjustments, route practice, passenger count, luggage, distance, waiting time, and a special trip can change the amount. Confirm the fare before a private or out-of-route trip.

Taxi and Private Car Expectations

Do not build the trip around finding a conventional street-hailable metered taxi. A large, dependable citywide metered-taxi fleet should not be assumed in Dumaguete. Local services using the word taxi often refer to a prearranged private car, SUV, or van with a driver. For a car ride, check the Grab app or arrange the vehicle before the pickup time.

Jeepneys, Multicabs, V-Hire, and Provincial Buses

Public vehicles serve established corridors within and beyond Dumaguete. They are useful for travellers going to Sibulan, Valencia, Bacong, Dauin, and other towns, but they do not provide hotel-to-hotel service. Terminals, loading points, stopping practice, and departure intervals can change. Ask Bethel Guest House, the driver, or the current terminal staff where to board the route needed that day.

Traveling From Dumaguete to Valencia, Bacong, and Dauin

Valencia

Valencia is inland and uphill from Dumaguete. Public jeepneys serve the town proper, while mountain destinations and waterfalls are easier with a private car, van with driver, rental vehicle, or properly equipped motorcycle. If the driver is waiting during a visit or collecting the group later, agree on the waiting and return arrangement before leaving Dumaguete. Do not assume Grab pickup will be available in the hills for the return trip.

Bacong

Bacong is directly south of Dumaguete on the national highway. Southbound jeepneys and buses serve the corridor. A rental vehicle, private car, or van gives a direct hotel-to-destination trip. A tricycle may accept a special trip, but the fare and return should be agreed first because the destination is outside ordinary central-city travel.

Dauin

Dauin is farther south beyond Bacong. Provincial buses and jeepneys use the southbound highway, and many resorts arrange private pickup from Dumaguete or DGT Airport. A rental car, van with driver, or motorcycle provides direct access to resorts and coastal destinations. For a resort stay or dive trip, ask the resort whether it offers a transfer before booking a separate vehicle.

Sibulan

Sibulan contains DGT Airport and the short ferry terminals used for southern Cebu. It is reached by the northbound highway from Dumaguete. Tricycles, jeepneys, buses, Grab when available, rental vehicles, and arranged transfers can be used depending on luggage and the exact terminal.

Planning Around January 29–31, 2027

The convention begins Friday, January 29, 2027. An international self-transfer, ferry connection, overnight bus, or long sea voyage carries more timing uncertainty than a single domestic flight. Weather can affect sea travel even when the published schedule has not changed, and terminal movement can affect an airport connection.

Arriving before the first convention session leaves time for immigration or baggage delays, hotel check-in, an ordinary meal, and the final trip to Bethel Guest House without building the entire journey around a narrow connection. Visitors who arrive earlier may also attend a regular local AA meeting, but regular meetings remain separate from the convention programme.

Questions You May Be Asking

What is the easiest way to arrive in Dumaguete for the 2027 Philippines A.A. Convention?

For many visitors, the simplest route is a flight to Dumaguete (Sibulan) Airport, code DGT. The best route still depends on where you begin. Visitors from Siquijor, Bohol, Cebu, Mindanao, Bacolod, and other parts of Negros may find ferry, bus, RORO, or road travel more practical.

What airport serves Dumaguete?

Dumaguete is served by Dumaguete (Sibulan) Airport, code DGT, in Sibulan, Negros Oriental. It is north of Dumaguete City and requires a short road transfer to Bethel Guest House.

Can I travel from Cebu to Dumaguete without flying?

Yes. You can use a through-bus that crosses by ferry, travel to Liloan and take a passenger or vehicle ferry to Sibulan, use the Bato–Tampi vehicle crossing, take a selected overnight passenger ferry, or connect by fast craft through Tagbilaran.

Is there a direct ferry from Siquijor to Dumaguete?

Yes. The current PPA schedule lists daily services by Aleson, Montenegro, OceanJet, and Star Marine. Confirm the selected sailing close to travel.

Can I travel from Bohol to Dumaguete by fast craft?

Yes. OceanJet serves the Tagbilaran–Dumaguete route. Check the live booking system for the January 2027 departure time and operating day.

How do I reach Dumaguete from Dapitan or northern Mindanao?

Use a passenger ferry or RORO service from Dapitan to Dumaguete City Port. FastCat, Montenegro, and other operators serve the route. Confirm vehicle space and the current departure directly.

Are the January 2027 schedules final?

No. The examples on this page were checked July 11, 2026. Airlines, ferry operators, port authorities, and bus companies may change services before January 2027.

Can I bring a car, van, or motorcycle to Dumaguete?

Yes. RORO services carry vehicles from Dapitan to Dumaguete and across the Liloan–Sibulan and Bato–Tampi crossings. Confirm documents, loading time, fare, and vehicle space.

How do I get from the airport or port to Bethel Guest House?

From DGT Airport, use a tricycle, rental vehicle, hotel pickup, or prearranged private transfer. From Dumaguete City Port, use a short local road transfer. From Sibulan or Tampi, continue south by road.

Can I arrange a car rental or van rental before arriving?

Yes. Providers advertise self-drive vehicles, cars with drivers, vans with drivers, airport pickup, seaport pickup, and hotel transfers. Confirm insurance, deposit, luggage capacity, pickup instructions, and cancellation terms directly.

Which international airports are most useful for reaching Dumaguete?

Mactan-Cebu International Airport, code CEB, and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, code MNL, are the principal international gateways. Continue from either gateway by domestic flight or use the Cebu land-and-sea routes on this page.

Which airlines arrive at Mactan-Cebu International Airport?

MCIA receives Philippine and international airlines. Current examples include Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Philippines AirAsia, Air Busan, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Emirates, EVA Air, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Korean Air, Scoot, Starlux, T’way Air, United Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and Xiamen Air on applicable routes and dates. Other carriers may appear on the official live route map. Use the official MCIA partner-airline page, live route map, and flight page for the current list.

Is Grab available in Dumaguete?

Grab lists Dumaguete City among its Philippine service locations. Open the app at the pickup point to see the ride types, drivers, fare estimate, and service boundary available at that moment. Do not assume every Grab product or an out-of-city return pickup will be available.

Are regular taxis available in Dumaguete?

Do not plan around finding a large fleet of street-hailable metered taxis. Services using the word taxi usually refer to a prearranged private car, SUV, or van. Check Grab or reserve a driver before the trip.

How do visitors normally travel within Dumaguete City?

Motorized tricycles are the ordinary public transport. Walking is practical around Bethel Guest House and central Rizal Boulevard. Grab, rental vehicles, hotel pickup, and private cars or vans are useful for luggage, groups, weather, mobility needs, or longer trips.

How can I travel from Bethel Guest House to Valencia, Bacong, or Dauin?

Public jeepneys and buses serve established corridors. A rental car, motorcycle, private driver, or van provides a direct trip. Grab may accept some cross-boundary trips, but service and return pickup should be checked in the app rather than assumed.

Can I rent a motorcycle or scooter in Dumaguete?

Yes. Confirm the required licence, helmet, insurance, deposit, vehicle condition, geographic limits, and return terms. The Valencia hills and the national highway toward Bacong and Dauin require suitable experience.
